Ulaanbaatar Housing Prototype

Currently, many mongolian nomads are moving to Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Outer Mongolia, in search of a better life. They settle in “ger districts” - informal settlements in the periphery of the city with no infrastructure for water or electricity.
In an informal settlement where residents already have the ability to provide dwellings for themselves, what is the role of the architect? In this speculative project, the architect’s role is to provide water and energy infrstructure.

I was responsible for helping with the design of a housing prototype that integrates the home with infrastructure for water and heat. The design is created with the guidance of Joshua Bolchover, Director of Rural Urban Framework.
